Day 192 of 365
Almost and not
Day 192 was my very first adventure in Indianapolis, Indiana
I started my morning at the Pop Culture Association conference. This full circle moment brought me to a lecture about the characters in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The Buffyverse is a huge part of who I am and I was excited. The discussion went a bit off course and I'll admit it was a little disappointing. Not every adventure is a good one.
After my trip down memory lane I had an amazing moment of pride listening to two extraordinary women discuss representation of LGBTQI+ youth in television and movies. It was pure joy to sit and listen to ideas and solutions. How refreshing.
I almost got in to comic con and I didn't get thrown out. Two more funny firsts.
The Indiana Comic Convention just happened to be across the street from my hotel. I went through the downtown mall to enter the venue. It wasn't difficult to find, I just followed the cosplayers and bumped into all kinds of crazy characters. I tried to get kicked out by security but the guys were so nice and didn't want to throw me to the curb. When I asked them to look menacing they just smiled and posed for a picture.
Why didn't I buy tickets?
The venue was only open for another 30 minutes and they were still charging $30 to enter. It felt like a waste of money so I just walked through the open areas and enjoyed the costumes.
Since it was the first time in Indy, I decided to explore downtown and it's a great city to walk through. The architecture is impressive and the sights are plentiful.
I stumbled upon Dick's Last Resort. This restaurant chain is one short raunchy sexist penis joke. The initial thought was to pop in for a quick dessert menu item but the more I looked around the bar and waiting area the more I realized this place is an example of why objectifying human beings has become normal. I didn't stay for dessert.
As adventures go, Day 192 was loaded. My feet are sore but my heart is very full.
Love & Light
