Day 61 of 365

A minister of marriage

There is a ton of back story to today's experience that is just too much to share, so I'll summarize. A few months ago I was asked to perform a wedding for two people who are very special to me. I was honored to be asked and am just as honored today as I complete the process of becoming an ordained marriage minister.

If you know me you also know that I left being a part of organized religion when my faith leader told me to turn my back on the LGBTQ community. You'll also know from reading any of my published works that this would be impossible. I love my LGBTQ family as much as my conforming family. I also happen to love myself enough to never let any person or organization dictate how to care for the person I am and the people I'm surrounded by.

It seems appropriate for a Sunday afternoon to read and complete the paperwork process making me a legal administer of marital vows. That's legally married for all people in the U.S. since June of 2015.

Yes, this is a ceremony for two women who love one another. They are extraordinary beings of love & light who have had their fair share of hardships when it comes to getting married. You can read an amazing article Roz recently published.

I don't want to be part of any religious organization any longer. It doesn't mean I don't believe in a higher power; it just means that I don't support organizations that make money and collect shiny things in the name of one.

All of that said, I am becoming a marriage minister for these extraordinary women because I believe in love and I believe in the joy that comes with being loved in return. It's rare and it's delicate and love is love.

Today I learned so much about the ceremonies and what's important and what is not. I'm lucky. I've had the incredible good fortune to be married to an amazing person who loves beyond imagination. If you find it you should never let it go.

On day 61 I embrace my new ministry.

Yes, I really do!

Love & Light
