Red Lyon Smithing

For the past few years, my son and I have poured our creativity into our blacksmith art, where his youthful curiosity has evolved into a shared passion. Together, we craft pieces that lean toward functional art—melding imagination and skill through blacksmithing, bladesmithing, coppersmithing, and hand-woven chainmaile. Every project challenges us to refine our craft and celebrate the beauty of metal in motion.

About David

As a teen, David attended an event with his mother. Among an ocean of creators he spent the day talking to the blacksmith, and only the blacksmith. The patience and generosity from this unknowing mentor inspired David to experiment with a home made forge. Curiosity and tenacity melded this young man into the skilled artist he is today. Moving metal is an art and in the fourteen years since that first show, David has grown in his craft. Self-taught, his youthful curiosity has become a collaborative passion by drawing his mother into the art. In 2024, they had their debut dream job as Red Lyon Smithing for South Florida’s Renaissance Festival. Their work leans toward objects of art and they seize every opportunity to stretch their skillset by bladesmithing, coppersmithing and weaving chainmaile.
