Day 241 of 365
Tea time
Today felt like a crazy one. I had a visit from local law enforcement. The story in summary, some guy fled a traffic stop and ran across my property. This is alleged and I never saw anything but the cops did have a walk around the property.
Believe it or not this wasn't actually a first for me. THAT story can be found on Facebook in 2014.
Since a visit from local law enforcement couldn't be my experience for the day I decided to try something that my mother and I had talked about doing.
Day 241 was all about harvesting and drinking dandelion root tea. I will be honest when I say that I was relying on my mom for guidance. Since she didn't have any dandelion tea bags on her shelf I'm pretty sure her interest was mostly about having this 365 day adventure together.
First things first, getting the roots.
The harvesting part of the day was pretty simple since I seem to be farming those golden weeds with no effort at all. It was a bit tricky to get large portions of the root but I got enough to make it worth the effort. Just for your information I don't use any chemicals on my yard so these roots a free from herbicides and pesticides.
Mini info infusion: Dandelion root improves digestion and aids in weight loss. It eases congestion of the liver, helps to purify the bladder and kidneys. It reduces the risk of urinary tract infections and contains calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, vitamins B and C. It helps to purify the blood, regulate blood sugar and improves blood circulation and helps with aching joints.
There are a few other things but as summer celebrations get in to full swing you might want to brew some root to help detox that liver.
Just a suggestion.
I pulled out about 30 rooted plants and after cutting off the greens I had a 1/4 cup of cut root. I read quite a few articles to determine that I could do this a few ways. I decided to roast the cut root at 250 degrees for about 30 minutes. I added a tablespoon to boiling water and waited about 10 minutes for it to steep.
If you're curious, this tea absolutely tastes like dirt. I scrubbed those roots pretty clean but it still tastes like the smell of the container I keep my night crawlers in for fishing. This would fall in to the medicinal tea realm. Maybe I'll add a touch of raw honey next time.
I'm going to give this a try for a few weeks to see if it improves my aching bones.
Day 241 was dirty and not quite so tasty.
